St. Paddy's Day Scrapbook Layout

Helloooooo my friendly followers!
I'm so very sorry that it's been a while since the last post. I've been fighting a pretty bad sinus infection, and dealing with lots of headaches from it.

But, I took a little bit of time to work on a St. Paddy's Day layout. I know, I know, it's the day AFTER St. Paddy's. Well, it is the thought that counts right? LOL

This is just a 1 page layout because originally I wanted it to be a card but the little monster/troll ended up being a tad bit too big (ok, well a lot too big, lol). So, I decided to make it a one page layout. This layout is filled with LOTS O' BLING!!!! Scroll to bottom of post to see finished layout w/bling.

Here is the original troll without the coins in his hand. Though the eyes and teeth look "pink" they are not. My lighting is just horrible! they are actually an icky yellow.

Here he is with the BLING coins I made :) again, eyes and teeth NOT pink--yellow.

Here is the pot o' gold before I added the 2nd shamrock for dimension.

And, here is the final layout! See, TOLD YOU, LOT O' BLING!!!!!

Ok, so for the monster (they call it a monster, I think he's a troll, haha), I got him ~HERE~ at Precious Piecings under the Halloween category. He is $2.00 USD. The actual colors I used vary from their design though, which is always intended when doing your own piecings. :)

I will be entering this Layout into one of the Precious Piecings Challenges this weekend over at their challenge blog ~HERE~ :)

My troll is made from almost all Bazzill Cardstock (all but his eyes and teeth and coins). I used charchol brown to ink all his edges and give him some depth. For my little trolls beard, ears and eyebrows I used a very light tan "flock" that my bff sis Leslie sent me. I used it over SCOR tape (which is SUPER strong--that flock will NEVER fall off!!) that was attached to bazzill cardstock and then cut to the shape I needed. Since it was too light, I just inked it lightly with a darker colorbox ink. For his eyes and teeth I used white cardstock (NON-Bazzill) cut to the shape I needed. I used a very icky yellow color (though you can't really tell from the pics) to ink the edges up of his eyes and I blotted it on his teeth. I mean, have YOU ever seen a troll with pearly "whites"? I haven't! lol

His spots are also bazzill cardstock. I cut the shapes I wanted (I did NOT use the "spots" shapes from the pattern, I cut my own spot pieces) and then inked the edges. The yellow spots are inked in a charcoal brown and the purple spots are inked in a cream color.

His fingers, toes, mouth, nose and eye enhancements are done with a black zig marker. I also gave him 3 wart spots on each side of his face.

The sentiments on the layout is something I came up with on my own :) I was going to do it in one single square, but decided to split it up. I used Tan Cardstock and inked the edges in charcoal brown. The top says "This lil' troll is mighty Bold..." and the bottom says "...He's comin' to steal yer Gold!". On that note, I used my Paper Dolls Dress Up Cricut cartridge to make the pot of gold and the shamrocks that are seen on this layout. For the Coins in the trolls hand and in the pot of gold, I created my own BLING. :) I used my Big and Embossy pad and a brayer to brayer some tan cardstock. I then loaded it up with Judikins Gold embossing tinsel. I heat embossed it and let it cool for a few minutes. It was not enough BLING for me to create the look I wanted of "coins" so I went over the square again with my brayer and more embossing glue and loaded it up again with more judikins. after the 2nd heat emboss it was SUPER BLING. I freehand cut 2 small coins for my troll to hold, one for each hand as if he had just taken the biggest coins the pot had to offer. I used my paper puncher (regular size) to punch out little circles to use as "coins". I layered them up and glued them down. I think they turned out pretty awesome! As if the gold BLING wasn't enough, I had to add more! I used my CTMH embossing pen and drew lines where the pot's rims would be. I loaded that up with judikins silver embossing tinsel and heated it up.  Turned out pretty good! For the shamrock, I put one down flat and then layered another on top with a 3d glue dot after inking the edges to give it some dimension.

So that a little note could be added, I created a small circular journal spot. I used the circle Journaling stamp from the "Journaling" set from the Paper Company. I stamped it on tan cardstock and then layered it on yellow and purple. I added a inked clover to it.
For the photo mat I just did a simple one layering yellow and purple bazzill, adding some silver BLING ribbon to the corners (I had originally used white ribbon, but then saw my silver when I was putting stuff away, so I figured I'd change it out!). I added a large shamrock to the top corner with a gold brad in the center and used a medium size shamrock on the bottom corner with a smaller gold brad in the center.

Well I hope you have enjoyed seeing my creation. While the paper piecing itself wasn't simple, the layout was. it took me all of 15 minutes to cut the photo mat, do the layering, do the journal stamp and put the whole page together. If you have all your supplies ready (such as a kit) then a layout can be as quick as this. :)

Thanks for being a friendly follower. Keep on Scrappin' and please remember, be kind to one another!

  3. Hi Lisa and Patricia, thank you so much for the comments. :)
I worked really hard on this little guy, and I'm proud that he came out so well!

I tried to use as much bling as I could, and for the coins, I consider that SUPER BLING, LOL. since each coin was individual instead of it all being one paper piecing. its a ton of little ones all put together!

Lisa, I do have a pic of my tattoo, I'll post it later on :)
