So, I showed you my alcohol ink backgrounds the other day. I made 2 cards with 2 of the backgrounds.

Here is a preview, click below to see the rest of this card and the other one.

So this one is a Friendship Card. I love how it turned out with one of the backgrounds I made with my alcohol inks!

Here is the rest of this card:
The front is layered on a light green bazzill cardstock. Even though you can't really see it, there IS green in the background that I made. I've tried dozens of pics and these backgrounds are SO hard to photograph because of the glare from the glossy cardstock.

I stamped the butterflies in assorted alcohol inks onto glossy cardstock. yes, my stamps are now stained for life. LOL after stamping them, I cut them with the coordinating dies (they are from a sizzix framelits set).

I really wanted to do the flowers in "color" but you HAVE to use archival ink on top of alcohol inks or it just won't come out. so I had to use black archival ink. I even tried to use a purple or red alcohol ink on the stamp and stamp over the background, but that didn't turn out so well so basically I had to scrap a whole background. but anyhow, i stamped the flowers and used really small (3mm and 5mm) gems in a few of the flower centers.

Because of the wording of the senti on the front, I didn't wanna put too much on this card! I just wanted it to be as CAS as possible!

The front of the card was VERY difficult to get the butterflies to stick to. I tried glossy accents and it was a no go. the glossy cardstock was just too glossy for it. So I ended up using Ultra Grit sand paper and sanding a small area for the butterflies to stick to and adhered them with glue dots. I also had to sand a tiny spot for the gems to attach to. :-/
This is the inside. I stamped the heart from the TH Visual Artistry Heartfelt set. I just thought that the heart tied in well with the sentiment on the front of the card.
The senti here inside is stamped from an older TAC (the angel company) set "One Liners" (set T-859, 2004). the sentiment goes so well with this card!

So, here is my other card. It could be used for a friendship card, or something else, I guess.
this is the front before I stamped on it and trimmed it down to fit my card. I have a whole top part of the background to use for something else. There are 3 colors in this background, plus the silver metallic mixative.
 and from the side.

I stamped the bird from the TH Urban Grunge set in black archival ink and heat set it carefully with my heat gun. I stamped the sentiment from the paper company playful expressions. So, I kinda screwed it up, if you can't tell. LOL after I stamped the senti, I was heat setting it, and the top layer of the glossy cardstock bubbled up and ripped.  but luckily, I was able to salvage it and just pop the bubble a little more and glue it down with some glossy accents.  it looks like a little bubble, but at least you can still read the sentiment. lol

I used my SU! scalloped border punch on my cardstock and layered my imaged background on top.
Added a little bit of ribbon and tied a knot.
For the inside, I used this senti from the same set as the one on the front of the card. I just stamped it in black memento. I thought that the senti went well with the one on the front. :)

So anyhow, I hope that you liked my cards. I had a BLAST making them. it's been a while since I've been really, really crafty, and I couldn't sleep the other night so I figured it would give me something to do.

  1. I love your cards! Those backgrounds are so nice and I love how you used them in your cards.

  2. Thanks Christina!!! it was definitely a challenge trying to figure out how to use them in a card. I actually didn't have any archival ink so I had to get some. Thankfully I had a special coupon from Hobby Lobby for 50% off (manager gave it to me a few weeks ago for an issue with an item I purchased) and I ended up getting the pad for 4.99 instead of 9.99!

Alcohol inks are SO fun to use! but yeah, challenging to make a card out of. I definitely want to get some COLORED Archival inks, because otherwise it's just going to be black images on very colorful backgrounds. LOL

Thanks for stopping by to look, and for taking the time to comment!! :)

  3. Wow, your backgrounds turned out beautiful and made lovely cards as well! Very pretty

  4. Thanks Lela! I had so much fun! the more I look at my cards the more I like them. I think I like them SOOOO much that I'm going to replicate them, LOL that way, I can keep one for myself since I'm sending these 2 off to people. :)

Thanks for coming by my blog to look at my cards and for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it! :)

  5. I'm just now getting the chance to take a look at your cards. I saw your backgrounds before my busy weekend! I LOVE the way you did these. And I learned something from your struggle to get the butterflies to adhere to the card. But both cards turned out beautiful!

  6. thanks dede!!! and no worries, life gets busy, I completely understand that! :)

thank you for the compliment. it was very fun making these. and yes, I hope that you learn from my struggles with trying to put these cards together. now I know, keep sandpaper on hand! a nail file didn't work!!

thank you so much for your compliment and for taking the time to stop by my blog. :)

  7. Melisa , I could learn so much of you...your projects are so amazing and unique..beautiful work
