It's been a while! but a fun project was done!

Hey friends! I know it's been a while since I last blogged, but things have been SO hectic around here!! We got the floors done in our living room and hallway by a friend of ours, and that had our house all messed up for a week.

Then, this last week a friend and I tore out the carpet in my craft room and did the floor in there. I had surgery 2 days after that so I've been down since last friday and my recovery is going to be a LONG one.

So, I've not been doing much, but I'm hoping this weekend I'll be able to get stuff out of the closet where I stacked it all, and get it all put away and sorted. I am going to ask hubby to help me move the stuff out of the closet and set it on the floor or my table. that room looks like a whole new room! I'm super excited to get it all finished.

but, before my surgery, I got a bunch of tim holtz alcohol inks. I've never used them before, and i was SO anxious to try them! so, I decided to dye some skittles (or dew drops as some call them). I had a BLAST!

I used 14 different colors and dyed 20 skittles of each color. they came out REALLY good. the only 2 colors that I'm not pleased with are the gold and silver from the metallic mixatives set. I can see where the color didn't fully coat (even though i did 2 coats of each color) and you can see small scrapes of the color come off. But, it's handmade, it isn't meant to be perfect!
Here is what I started with

In the above photo are all the colors I had. I have 4 sets and those sets are: Gold and Silver Mixatives, Cabin Cupboard, Nature Walk, Dockside Picnic and Summit View.

I used small baggies, size 3in x 4in and used about 3-4 drops of each color. I labeled the baggies of what color I used, and then just let them dry when I finished, that way I can re-use them later. No waste!!

Here are the sets when I was finished.
I started off with some clear skittles. You can buy a huge bag of them (12 oz.) at Michaels for 5.99 there must be at least 1000 of them in the bag! i made all of these and it didn't even put a small dent in the amount I had in my jar. lol

I'm very pleased with how they turned out... from different angles they look like different colors.
They came out very nice!
the more drops of AA you use, the darker the color.
I also have the blending solution, and from what I understand, you can mix that with colors and it will make new colors. I haven't tried it yet, but that will be my next project.
I made mine on WAX PAPER, the skittles didn't stick to it and they dried really quick. If you are going to do this project, and your skittles don't dry within 3 minutes, that means you have used wayyyyyy too much ink.

I like the wax paper because it's cheap and a little goes a long way!

here is the set when I put them all in a baggy together once they dried. I LOVE the rainbow of colors :)

 such pretty colors!! :)

Well that was my fun project, just wanted to share!

Keep on Scrappin' and please, be kind to one another!

  2. Hi Laurie, you're welcome for the info! It is SUPER easy, and fun. I actually need to go to michaels and get another bag of the clear skittles because I've had a couple people ask for some of these. :)

If you don't have any alcohol inks and you would like some, let me know, I'll gladly make some and send them to you, free of charge ;)

    Thanks!
