Sail Away for your Birthday (2 cards)

I had to make a masculine Birthday card, so I decided to go with a sailboat. I wanted to make an extra one to have on hand, so I made a slightly different card but these are 2 card layouts different than I've ever done. Here are 2 sneak peeks, but you know what you have to do to see the full cards...

The front of this card has a few different layers to it, but I think it turned out PERFECT! I don't know if there is a name for this type of card, but I'm calling it a peek-a-boo card, because the message is hidden inside the card right behind the sailboat square.

I did a little less than a half fold for the side of the card, this is where there's space on the inside for the sentiment to be written. I used some brown and white bakers twine and looped it through a metal ships wheel embellishment (that little piece is HEAVY), I crisscrossed the twine and tied it in a knot.

I distressed the square that the sailboat is on and inked the edges with some brown ink I mounted that on a square of VERY shimmery blue cardstock (not really visible in this pic, but the next pic shows just how shimmery that cardstock really is!)

See how shimmery the blue cardstock is? VERY! I stamped the anchor ad the birthday sentiment and then mounted that on the same shimmer blue cardstock and carefully lined it up with the sailboat square on the front of the card and placed it inside so that it's hidden when the card front is closed. I stamped some birds because I thought that they went well with the theme.

I needed to make sure there was somewhere to write a note, even if it was a small space, so for the side panel I stamped some sea shells and cat tails and mounted that on white cardstock that I inked the edges blue.

Here is the 2nd card that I made, slightly different. Really, the only thing different about this card is that I used a different sailboat image and the card is slightly smaller because the image is smaller than the other sailboat on the other card.

I hope that you enjoyed what I shared here, I hope I inspired you to make a card a little different from a traditional fold.

Check back soon, I have more to share.
