A Very Merry Un-Birthday!

What better time to update my blog with my Alice in Wonderland card that I made for our friend Jenn's Birthday, then when I'm watching Tim Burton's remake of Alice in Wonderland. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm a lover of ALL things Alice in Wonderland as well as a HUGE fan of Tim Burton films. There isn't one yet that I haven't seen!
In my opinion, Alice in Wonderland is one of the most imaginative Disney movies out there! Of course, the Tim Burton version of the film is absolutely bonkers, but I would expect nothing less of him.

Anyhow, there were a lot of steps to making this card, but I didn't mind. I think that Sweet Pea stamp cards should be made elegant and cute like Magnolia cards. For this card I used the Cheshire Cat Illusion stamp by Chingchou Kuik at Sweet Pea Stamps.

Here's a sneak peek. click the link below for all the pics.

So here is the full card front. It was difficult to get photos of this card because I colored the image with prismacolored pencils and blended it with gamsol. I've recently figured out that any images that have been colored with prismacolored pencils and/or blended with gamsol tend to react weirdly with the flash from the camera.

The flourishes are all from the Spellbinders Shapabilities--Floral Flourishes set. I cut them out in flat white cs and then used an assortment of my homemade glimmer mists in different ways to add color. I spritz them, I put drops of the liquid on them and I flicked the glimmer mist on them with my fingertips. I LOVE how they came out! You can't really tell in the picture, but I assure you, they are SOOOOOOO shiny and shimmery!!
I matted the colored image on top of lime green bazzill cs that I used my Fiskars Treading Water border punch on. I didn't want to mat the image on both sides with a border, only the top and bottom so that more of the flourishes and other deco cs showed.
The pink vine cs is from DCWV "Nana's Nursery, Baby Girl" mat stack. I thought that the flourishes in the vines matched the rest of the card embellishments well, and the flourishes in her hair. The pink wasn't as dark as I wanted it, so I used Stampin' Up! Pink Passion ink with my TH distress tool and covered the cs in it. It doesn't quite look like it matches the cat well, but if you were holding the card, it would match the pink I colored on him, almost exactly!
You can see that Cheshire's eyes are glossy. I put glossy accents on his eyes as well as on the eyes of Alice.
The purple paper that is matted on top of the orange cs is actually a fuzzy debossed paper. it's from the Paper Company and it's the lilac embossed leaf sheet. I love it! it's actually double sided, you can use it as embossed (raised) or debossed where the embossing is pressed down instead of raised up, which is how I used it. I liked it better that way. the paper wasn't quite dark enough to match the color of Cheshire so I used Stampin' Up!  Lavender Lace and my TH distressing tool to rub some of the ink all over it. it made it darker and it better matched the cat.

I tried to take SEVERAL photos ot show the detail as best as I could. and one can never have enough photos to show off their work! hehe. but, you can see the different colors of the glimmer mists I used on the flourishes. just FAB!

Pardon the "coloring outside the lines" of the detail in her hair, but it was difficult to color laying in bed. Still healing up from back surgery and couldn't really sit up at the desk for too long so I figured it would be easier to color the image in bed and then sit up and put the card together.

The flower. AHHHHH I tell you, this flower drove me NUTS. I went through about 200 pieces of flowers that I have trying to find just the right assortment. I couldn't decide what colors to stack on top of what, if I wanted to stack so many, if I wanted to stack one of every color etc. So, I ended up doing jsut that, stacking one of every color that you see on the card.
These flowers are an assortment of Prima, Recollections, and WOC (Wild Orchid Crafts). for the very top one, the little white one, it's one of those small Prima roses that is on the green wire stem. I fed that through all of the flower centers and then wrapped the wire in a circle on the bottom of the last flower. I used a single glue dot between each layer of flowers just to be sure they stayed together, and then I used about 10 glue dots on the back of the purple flower to hold it to the card. LOL  this card is going across the country, wanted to make sure it stayed on, even though I wrapped the card in 3 pieces of cardboard and bubble wrap. lmao
For the tag I stamped the sentiment/image combo stamp from Studio G on white cardstock and then punched it out with my Decorative Label punch from Stampin' Up! I colored the cake and candles wtih my zig brushable markers with colors that appear on the card. I thought that doing the cake layers in the pink and purple would go well with how the cat really appears in the movie, even though i didn't color him with specific stripy layers on the image.
I added a small piece of ribbon for the top of the tag, though I did forget to "staple" it to the tag. LOL now it just looks like it's floating on there. I was up until 4 am working on this card, I was soooooo tired. I did my best! I highlighted the edges of the card with lime green colorbox catseye queue.
The sentiment did NOT originally say "un-birthday" so I took a zig fine tip marker and wrote "un" in front of the birthday. I matched the color as best as I could.
this is the inside of the card. I used the sentiment from set 1 of 2 of the Stampin' Up! Happiest Birthday Wishes set (this is a Hostess only set--if you aren't a Hostess and you want it, check out ebay. Kinda expensive, but well worth it, since between the 2 cases of the set there are 11 stamps!)
I had this genius idea of adding the arrows because in the movie one of the conversations between Alice and Cheshire is
Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to

Well, I thought the arrows went with that. :) The image is stamped in Stampin' Up! Pumpkin pie to bring some color from the front of the card inside. I used Pink Passion and Lavender Lace for the arrows. The white CS that the image is on, is actually matted on top of RED cardstock, but it looks pink in the picture :( I really have to find a better way to take photos, because I am finding more and more that my pictures aren't being done justice despite my $200+ dollar camera!! I am going to make a photo box or get a photo tent, and I know I need some good spotlights, but all that is definitely on my "wishlist" LOL
Here are a couple pics of the card on it's back to show the dimension of the items used.
I didn't want to adhere the flourishes all the way flat to the card because I liked the look of the card with them floating. :)
I really like how some things are popped off the card with the foam pop ups (which btw, are also a "homemade" item. I just used a 4x8 square of white "fun foam" that my ma sent me, and cut it down to small pieces and adhered it on both sides with glossy accents. It's got a SUPER hold and much, much cheaper than buying dozens of foam self adhesive pop dots)

Well, that's my card! I hope you enjoyed! I'm submitting this card to Sweet Pea Stamps and hopefully they will share it on the Sweet Pea Stamps Blog like they did my Sympathy Card that I made with Neva. :)
**Edited to Add, I've added this card to the Sweet Pea Stamps Blog for the "Show Us Your Blog" submission :)

I had a lot of fun making this card, and even though Jenn isn't a "girly girl", I decided to make this card for her because we share a memory of Alice in Wonderland. She comes to visit us once a year from good 'ol lost wages, uhm, I mean Las Vegas, here in the sticks, I mean Kentucky, and one year we went and saw the Tim Burton version of the movie together, in 3D. it was fun. :) All of my cards have sentimental value, but this one a little bit more.

Keep on Craftin'!

    1. Hello Nataliya. oh yes that flower!! I tell ya, I got frustrated several times!! I just recently had back surgery and it was very difficult for me to get all my supplies together for this card, since I was making it in bed. LOL

I had to have hubby help me get all the supplies and stuff. My bed was littered with flowers, it looked like a wedding isle after a flower girl walked down. LOL

Anyhow, I do love how the flower came out, and I did try "smaller" assortments arranged on the card (3, cause you know, the rule of 3) but, yeah I'm glad I used this one with several layers as opposed to a few smaller ones.

Thank yuo for stopping by to check out my card. I'll stop by your blog too.
